A morning each week, a few close friends and I meet. Having known each other for some time, our relationships are such that we ask direct questions of one another. During a recent topic regarding the counseling profession, a question was asked about the number of people I see each week. One friend in particular was surprised at the number stated as well as the volume of hours necessary to provide counseling services.
Knowing my wife and children need to have “daddy” home, he made the following statement. He said “First and foremost, your family requires the best of you and you are letting them down. There will always be a high number of people who need counseling. You can not help everyone; much less provide the high quality care they deserve. Buck, counsel ‘just one’ family at a time, focus on them and use the best of your skills. Stop neglecting the need of your family.” My friend’s courageous statement was right on the mark. Thus, Just One Counseling began with the intention of dedicating my efforts to a single family who selects my counseling services. To them I commit the highest quality of care possible for their circumstances. To my family, I commit the best of my attention, energy and heart.
Be well.
